I am Marta Mata, a 25-year-old Portuguese pianist currently pursuing my Master's degree under the guidance of Professor Aleksandar Madžar at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.

From 2020 to 2023, I studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where I had lessons with Professor Frank van de Laar. During this period, I was fortunate to receive a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, which allowed me to prioritize my studies and musical practice. This remarkable experience not only deepened my motivation but also inspired me to expand my knowledge and embrace new challenges. Consequently, I made the decision to continue my educational journey where I am now, in Brussels.

Hello, there!

My Story

I was born in 1997 in the southern part of the Lisbon metropolitan area, Portugal.

In my early years, I followed in the footsteps of my older sister, trying my hand at ballet and swimming. Unlike her natural great abilities, I struggled considerably with both activities. Coincidentally, music lessons were offered on the floor above the ballet classes. Concerned about their non-talented daughter, my parents decided to explore whether music might be a better fit for me.

Music worked out better than ballet and swimming (or rather said, drowining), and at the age of nine, I began taking piano lessons with Professor Luís Pinto at the Conservatório Regional de Palmela. This mentorship continued throughout all my school years.

I furthered my education at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon, where I pursued a bachelor's degree in Piano for Chamber Music and Accompaniment under the tutelage of Professor Paulo Oliveira.

From 2020 to 2023, I studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, under the guidance of Professor Frank van de Laar. During this transformative period, I was fortunate to be awarded a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. This experience fueled my desire for continuous growth and the pursuit of new challenges.

As a result, I am embarking on a new chapter by choosing to further my educational journey under the tutelage of Professor Aleksandar Madžar at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.
